Choosing the best mortgage broker in Singapore

Can you actually trust those “best mortgage brokers in Singapore” lists?

Most people don’t question them. You search, you click, and you assume someone has already filtered the market for you.

The word “best” carries an implicit promise that some level of evaluation has taken place.

But take a closer look at what is actually being listed. One of these “best mortgage brokers” guides includes Roshi. Now compare that with this:

You don’t even have to agree with our view. Just read through it. There are already enough questions raised within Roshi itself—from how it presents its process to how certain claims are framed to the gaps between what is implied and what is actually happening. In other words, it is not something you would immediately take at face value without further scrutiny.

So the question is not whether Roshi is good or bad. The question is: how did something already raising that many questions end up on a “best mortgage brokers” list? Because a “best” list is not just a directory. It is a claim. It suggests that some form of filtering, evaluation, and judgment has already taken place. If something questionable can make it onto that list, then what exactly was that process?

Aren't these the basic things you look for when looking for a loan broker? So by doing the basics, they are considered the best - Wouldn't that be implying the rest don't even do this?? โš ๏ธ

That question became clearer when we received this email.

This was not someone explaining their methodology. It was not a reviewer defending their rankings. It was a commercial offer.

Pay, and you can be featured.

Pay, and you can shape your write-up.

Pay, and you can secure visibility on the list. And the best thing? They asked us initially if we wanted to be featured as the best mortgage broker. And when we asked, "Are we required to pay?" They asked us to reserve the spot for the best psychotherapy in Singapore!? ๐Ÿ˜ญ So can you even trust their reviews just took another dent.

Now go back to the earlier question. If an entry that already raises questions can appear on a “best” list, and placement on that list can be influenced commercially, then the list is no longer something you can read at face value. Because what you are looking at may not be the result of a strict evaluation process. It may simply be the outcome of who is included, how they are presented, and who chose to participate. And yet, it is presented as a comparison. And that is where the problem lies. Because when something already questionable is placed inside a list that claims to show you the “best,” and that list itself can be influenced by commercial arrangements, the issue is no longer just accuracy. It is trust.
